Music and me

Music is something that I do since I was about seven years old. At some point, it also became a profession. But above all, music for me is an endless learning experience, a way to keep discovering new and beautiful things.

Playing the flute

Playing beautiful sounds on the flute is my lifelong mission. The flute is a very demanding instrument, that remains a mystery to me till this day. My basic training was as a classical flutist, but at some point I began to search for other musical directions with it. This led to play in all kinds of musical styles - early music, flamenco, Latin, rock, pop, lots of Israeli music, and above all jazz, as my main musical inspiration. On the "performance" page, you can watch some videos of me playing live, listen to studio recordings of mine and all kinds of experimentations I record at my home studio

Arranging and notating

Over the years I got to do quite a lot of writing and arranging for all kinds of musical situations. I especially like arranging music for flute in various ensembles, and you can listen to some of these arrangements in the flute arrangements section. Working with Finale notation software for over two decades, I became proficient in notating sheet music in various styles. In my notation works I am very meticulous about precision, readability and aesthetics. A small collection of sheet music with flute arrangements and lead sheets of Israeli and Jewish songs can be purchased at the online sheet music shop. Sheet music with flute practice material is available for free for site members.

Music and the world

Global changes are now becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. In recent years, I began to think about music as a way of processing and reacting to the current situation of our civilization and the direction it may be heading. Recently, this idea led me to write and record an original, jazz-oriented piece titled "Overshoot and Collapse", which is inspired by William Catton's seminal book "Overshoot". You can find this music and earlier musical experimentations of mine on the original music page.

Music and language

In my early twenties, besides music, I became very interested in language and completed a BA in linguistics. Thoughts about the relations between these two uniquely human phenomena - music and language, brought me almost twenty years later to write my MA thesis in linguistics, titled "Rhythmic Similarities between Language and Music: Jazz and Bluegrass Musicians as a Case Study".
